The predecessor of the sinosteel company is the China Metallurgical Import & Export Corporation (CMIEC) which was founded in January 1980. A state-owned large-size foreign trade company CMIEC was a result of the renovation of China's old foreign trade system under the guidance of reform and open-up policies. CMIEC was renamed as sinosteel COMPANY on November 17, 2004 and is a wholly-funded subsidiary of the Sinosteel COMPANY
